For perspective of timing:
And it is in his honor that we present the T.D. Francis X-Hour Film Contest at DEFCON. We* are very passionate about movies and we wanted to bring something different to the already crazy world of DEFCON. And because DEFCON is so very eclectic, we've such a great group of creative minds that think outside the box. Making movies is about figuring out which rules to break and which ones to create. It's about taking chances. It's about showing a vision. This is the chance for filmmakers of all types, from complete n00bs, or students of film, to the semi-pro, to make a movie in a unique and exciting setting: DEFCON. There's a lot of really great 48 hour type film contests but none of them happen at DEFCON.
The "48 hour" film contest format is only the beginning for the T.D. Francis X-Hour Film Contest. We will hold other contests and events: a film festival, feature length movies, recognition and awards for the worthy, different categories of contest events, technology film making challenges, tutorials to help entrants make better movies and to tell the great stories that want to get out, and more.

Daniel Olbrych was the film critic at the Daily Sitka Sentinel from 2012 to 2015. Long time goon, Thomas Waszak was a critic of the film critic at the Daily Sitka Sentinel from 2012 to 2015. He looks like Kevin Spacey, or is Kevin Spacey... We became friends over beer, a love of movies, art, and story, and just a couple years later, here we are. Both of us have attended, been kicked out of, flunked out of, dropped out of, or finished various demanding, undemanding, non-prestigious or shady film schools. Both of us, like everyone else, has a dream to tell a great story. The T.D. Francis X-Hour Film Contest is one step closer to telling that great story for everyone who participates.
